How to Spend 2 Days in Zadar

by

You can do more than simply explore the sites in Zadar with two days. Take a sunset cruise, sip some local wine or cherry liqueur, or explore the attractions of Croatia’s hinterland. Here are our best recommendations for making the most of 48 hours in the ancient port city, including day trip alternatives.

Day 1: Explore Zadar

Morning: Start your day early to see Zadar’s finest sights before the crowds and heat get unbearable. Whether you’re interested in learning about Croatian cuisine or learning about the country’s history, you have a variety of possibilities. Join a bike or Segway tour, or go on a walk to get a closer look at the city.

Afternoon: Set off on an afternoon cruise to beat the heat of the day. Alternatively, broaden your horizons with a trip of rural Zadar, which includes lunch and wine tastings.

Night: Relax with a delicious seafood supper in an Old Town restaurant, then have a sip of Zadar’s local cherry liqueur on a neighboring bar patio. Take a walk down to the Sea Organ and Sun Salutation for a holistic sunset experience.

Day 2: Discover Croatia

Morning: Zadar is an excellent starting place for exploring the Adriatic Sea. Choose from a variety of transportation alternatives for full-day excursions to island sites such as Telaica Nature Park. Alternatively, go north to some of Croatia’s hinterland treasures, such as the Plitvice Lakes and Krka national parks on the mainland. Although most day trips do not include lunch, you will not go far in Croatia without finding a delicious restaurant.
Afternoon: Day trips usually go until late afternoon, returning you to town in the early evening. If you have some free time in Zadar, travel to Kolovare pebble beach to soak up the final rays of the day with the locals, or take a stroll through Queen Jelena Madijevka Park.
Night: On a sunset boat, take in your final sights of the city while drinking an aperitif and watching the golden skies fade to navy. The Borik and Diklo seafronts provide an after-dark alternative to the Old Town if you’re still in the mood to explore once you’re back on dry ground.
